PROJECT

Project Title

In a pioneering effort to decarbonize maritime transport, NatPower Marine partnered with Peel Ports Group to establish the UK’s first green shipping corridor between the UK and Ireland. This initiative aims to significantly reduce emissions from vessels operating across the Irish Sea by implementing advanced shore power solutions and propulsion charging infrastructure.

The Challenge

High Emissions: Over 3,000 vessels cross the Irish Sea annually, emitting approximately 230,000 tonnes of CO₂, 20,000 tonnes of nitrogen oxides (NOₓ), and 18,000 tonnes of sulfur oxides (SOₓ). These emissions contribute to environmental pollution and adversely affect air quality in port communities.

Infrastructure Gap: The absence of charging infrastructure for electric ships (e-ships) and the need for cold ironing capabilities at ports hindered the transition to cleaner maritime operations.

Solutions implemented

Collaborare con NatPower Marine ha segnato una svolta per le nostre attività. Le loro soluzioni di energia pulita non solo ci hanno aiutato a ridurre le emissioni, ma hanno anche migliorato l’efficienza e il risparmio sui costi.

How long will the transition take?

Where those locations are and when they are deployed is up to you.
No one knows your business better than you, which is why we’re inviting you to tell us where you need shore power the most, helping ensure we deploy the right infrastructure, in the right place, at the right time.

2050

The internationally agreed date to achieve net zero shipping – is just one vessel lifetime away, requiring urgent action today.

2030

To support this rapid transition, we are leveraging our significant financial backing to build our global network at scale and pace. By 2030 we plan to invest £3 billion in ship charging infrastructure across 120 ports locations worldwide.

Emission Reductions

The implementation of shore power and propulsion charging infrastructure is projected to significantly decrease CO₂, NOₓ, and SOₓ emissions from vessels operating between the UK and Ireland, contributing to improved air quality and environmental sustainability.

Enhanced Port Competitiveness

We provide propulsion charging for hybrid and full electric vessels, a cheaper, quieter and more sustainable way of operating any type of By adopting advanced clean energy solutions, Peel Ports Group positions itself as a forward-thinking port operator, attracting shipping lines committed to sustainable practices.vessel in preparation for the new Emission Control Areas legal requirements and emission targets.
